Why the Lioness
Pivotal moments happen in every life: locking eyes across a room for the first time with “the one”, drinking in the wizened face of your newborn baby, or walking across a stage to receive the symbol of years of concerted effort. I’ve enjoyed all these moments, some more than once, but the one that created my biggest perspective shift happened at the Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa.
I was on a life coaching retreat in 2013, sitting in the back of an open Land Rover while Ranger Jess opined about how special lionesses are. She said they go against their solitary feline nature to work together because they’ve learned that’s the only way for the Pride to survive and thrive. At that moment, I had a vision of girls working together instead of cutting each other down. I could coach them to see the benefit of seeing themselves as a Pride of lionesses, intent upon building up their Girl Power, and then choosing to use it for GOOD! That one glimpse of Girl World as a Pride, instead of a beauty contest, changed everything for me. I returned home and formed the not-for-profit Girl Power for Good Foundation.
My life is now spent empowering girls and their moms to work together to change the corrosive viper pit of mean girls into a pride of supportive lionesses. It’s easy to talk to girls about the lionesses, as they are a pure symbol of female power. They are tough when they need to be, and gentle when they need to be, but most of all, they support each other. If you want your daughter to be powerful and resilient, she needs a Pride to support her on that journey. We have that Pride, and we will teach her that in order to be heard, sometimes you gotta’ roar.

GP4G has filled my cup and given me strength and courage when I have none. I have learned with you that true transformation requires vulnerability, and in that vulnerability lies POWER. GP4G created a safe space for vulnerability and grew this into an incredible community of powerful women. I am transformed and inspired and am forever grateful!
